Team

GvG is the most fun thing to do in Guildwars... lately though my guild is having issues GvGing, and many of them usually result on blaming the build or other people for some reason.

I personally think it is never the build (cept for people who bring frenzy-sig in GvG) and that its Team issues, So I need some answers.

This might be a retarded question, but just hear me out.

How Do you Team Work Guildwars?

I mean, how do top teams stay alive for a whole 28 mins while they play against each other?
Having different builds/meta is one thing, but how do you improve teamwork?
Share stories if yall dont mind. THX! :D

the way i think of GvG, is that yes there is an overall team, and they all need to mesh. But, in a match, i think there are multiple different teams that also need to co-exist.

8v8 situation- your monks are 1 team. They need to be able to work together and know what the other can/can't do. Its a lot of communication between your monks in the sense that they need to know each others playing style and adapt to be able to fit together.
team 2: your frontline- they need to be able to call spikes and co-ordinate with each other, yes sometimes they will call spikes on the same target, there is always a chance of that. but they can't just sit on 1 target.
team 3: your midline, say you have a ranger, dom mes, and a bsurge. The ranger and mesmer need to work together knowing what their single priorities are to shut down. if the other team is running a water ele and a dom mesmer. Normally, the ranger should sit on the mesmer to dshot diversions, shames, etc. and your mesmer should sit on the water ele, stripping enchants, diverting stuff. but occasionally they need to switch, it also depends on how your mesmer/ranger is at interrupting skills etc.

split situation- your split team needs to keep in touch with your stand team. say your 1(axe), 3(ranger), 8(flagger) are the split team in their base. They need to tell the stand team whats going on, whether they are getting something done or not. Vise Versa, the stand team also needs to tell them where they are positioned(ie. flag stand, base, etc) and also let the split team know that the other team is sending something back to try to kill your split team.

Basically, team work is a lot of communication.

Most people immediately blame the monks for not keeping the team alive, and if your monks are just terrible, then its true, but usually, if the monks can keep you up for a good 5-7 minutes, and you haven't achieved anything, then there is something wrong. Whether the achievement be, a kill, gaining positioning, pressuring the other team till they wipe, etc. But if you guys are wiping after a few minutes of play, many people don't realize that the midline is a lot of your defense. if they do their job correctly then you shouldn't be taking a lot of damage at all.
for example: [rawr], their midline would do their jobs correctly, and it showed because they weren't taking much damage, besides spikes and degen. (not taking credit away from the monks here)

Try to not just blame the monks, but look at your team at a whole in obs, and look at what each player can do better, and communicate.

i know i just wrote a wall of text, but i hope that this helps

This whole scenario happens alot. Don't get trapped into the get 8 players hit enter and gvg. Play the blame game go in again type thing. If your team really cares about improvement you really might want to analyze what everybody is doing. I guareentee at lower ranks theirs a ton of mistakes on everybodies part. If you can't figure it out ask for help from better players. Otherwise, your team won't get better at any fast rate. Everybody is going to just sit in their high chair and point a finger rather then realize their own mistakes and the mistakes of others on their team.

Team working in guild wars depends on everyone's personalities. If you don't want people blowing up, blaming everything and everyone, leaving, etc, you gotta have the right kind of personality. We had our share of those kinds of people, and well...guess what, they arn't in rawr anymore. We got rid of them REAL quick. lol

Here are some factors I think contributed to rawr's teamwork success.

1. we had a clear solid hierarchy, guild leaders had final say on administrative stuff.
2. we had TWO guild leaders sharing equally the power. kept us both in check with each other.
3. we recruited in groups. Other than polly, everyone recruited had a buddy/buddies that also came with them, or was recruited soon after. It allowed us to take advantage of an already established synergy.
4. the guild leaders were NOT the build makers/strat callers. this prevented the scenario of "hey i created this build, i know it works, you guys didn't follow my strats, IM KICKING YOU ALL" Again, division of power
5. rules and expectations. the team has got to know what is expected from them. Be on time, be there, let us know if you can't be. People who disregard the rules show disregard for other people, and in the end are bad apples. When you got 7 people waiting for you to show up to a gvg, and you didn't let them know you weren't gonna make it...well you just pissed off 7 people and wasted everyone's time.

And Last and most important!!!

6. team bonding. team spirit. team team team. Do stuff that strengthens the team. Play together outside of gvg, be generous, GO RAWR. We had rawr shields that awowa and I went out and farmed for every member of the team. We'd pull em out in gvg like an army! Everyone always bought stuff for everyone else that they needed. People farmed up gvg-ready pve characters together. etc... I got an artist to make those portrait avatars for everyone on the team. It's just nice to give and let everyone know you care! :)
